In a female, two year old, chicken carcass five soft, subcutaneous, dark-brown coloured, amorphous structures of different sizes were observed between the thigh and the abdomen. The nodules presented no adhesions to any other structure.

The inspector wanted to know what these nodules were, unfortunately samples were not submitted for histological characterization.

The hypotheses discussed among the pathologists who reviewed the case is that it was a subcutaneous old hematoma which had not been reabsorbed or the sequelae of a resolved inflammatory event.

Have you ever seen such structures?
