Cutaneous nodular pinkish lesions in a mixed breed, 6 months old pig.

Skin samples were submitted from a mixed breed, 6 months old pig carcass. The lesions consisted of pale pinkish protruding nodules scattered throughout the skin.

The differential diagnosis included a neoplasia firstly, but there were also other less likely options such as Pityriasis rosea, Erysipelas or PDNS which had to be considered.

Histopathological examination revealed that it was a malignant process: a cutaneous mastocytoma. It is a disease that is rarely diagnosed in swine.
