The histopathological study showed a cystic cavity lined with a simple flat epithelium, the lesion was therefore classified as a serous hepatic cyst. This lesion has no pathological significance and is of probable congenital origin. In the differential diagnosis one must consider that it may be a parasitic cyst, in particular Cysticercus tenuicollis (larval stage of Taenia hydatigena) that runs with the presence of cysts of transparent liquid content that are usually observed on the serous surface of the viscera. These cysts contain the protoscolex of the parasite inside (absent in this case). The hydatid cyst (larval stage of Echinoccus granulosus) usually causes intraparenchymal cysts, although some of them may protrude to the surface, containing the hydatid sand (protoscolex).
