Professionals with biosecurity training: At least a reality in Spain!

The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) has made possible the 1st Postgraduate course of Biosecurity Strategies and Biological Containment in Spain. It is known for many years that the biosecurity world needed a regulated training.

The different professionals involved in key aspects had to travel abroad in order to take training courses to become experts in the performance of specific tasks (normative aspects, assessment and management of biological risk, management of biological wastes, transport of biological material, answers in front of biological emergencies, establishment of a biosecurity program, etc.), since it was what they were asked by their own institutions.

It has been some years since the European Union, which was aware of the urgent necessity of this training, works hard in this line to achieve it, trying to harmonize and homogenize the contents at a European level.

Due to all abovementioned, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) has made possible the 1st Postgraduate course of Biosecurity Strategies and Biological Containment in Spain, which is directed by Dr. Isern, Chief of the Office of Environment, together with Dr. Villaverde, Professor of Microbiology. This course is supported by the Asociación Española de Bioseguridad (AEBios), which has supervised the program and has given its approval.

The first edition, following a blended learning model, will take place from next May 3rd to June 30th. The CReSA will be present too and the students will have the opportunity to visit the Biosecurity facilities of the CReSA and to discuss the different aspects in situ. Spread the message as wide as possible!
