Conclusions of the conference on flu organized by the CReSA and SEV

A total of 118 veterinarians and human health professionals attended the 1st Conference on Zoonosis and Emerging Diseases. Different aspects related to the avian, swine and human influenza were discussed.

The conference “Avian and Swine Flu: current situation and perspectives of future” was held last June 17-18th 2010. Speakers with recognized expertise responded to a number of doubts about the influenza virus (immunology, surveillance, pathology, epidemiology and molecular biology, among other issues).

Fernando Rodríguez (researcher of the CReSA) and Esteban Domingo (president of the Spanish Society for Immunology, SEV) conducted a conference characterized by the excellent quality of the communications and also the interesting debate generated. One of the main conclusions obtained is that institutions involved in human and animal health should work more closely and create collaborations and synergies in research, surveillance and control of the flu.

The Conference was sponsored by Laboratorios Syva, Pfizer, Gripovac-3 (Merial), Algenex, Sociedad Española de Virología, Thomson Reuters Drug News and Sociedad Española de Inmunología; and is also supported by the Comissionat per a Universitats i Recerca del Departament d'Innovació, Universitats i Empresa of the Generalitat de Catalunya (ARCS2009).
