Conclusions of the Second Conference on zoonoses and emerging diseases

Over 100 health professionals (human and veterinary fields) discussed multiple aspects of mosquito-borne viral diseases on 23 and 24 May 2013 in Cosmocaixa Barcelona.

The sessions were organized by the Centre for Research in the Animal Health (CReSA), the Spanish Society for Virology (SEV) and the Spanish Society for Immunology (SEI). The Conference was characterized by the excellent quality of the communications and the interesting debate generated.

The main objective of this Conference is to bring together experts on climatology, entomology, virology, epidemiology, immunology, and scientific communication, among other disciplines, in order to tackle a topical scientific and social issue from many points of view, entirely complementary, in our view.

In an increasingly globalized and changing world, where borders and distances have been blurred, we cannot longer speak about exotic or endemic diseases. This fact is even more evident when we speak about diseases transmitted by mosquitoes (vectors), which are easily transportable and difficult to control.
