Llilianne Ganges, Rosa Rosell and Xavier Abad performed a technical mission in Colombia

Llilianne Ganges, Rosa Rosell, researchers of the Animal Health Program from IRTA and Xavier Abad, head of the Biocontainment Unit of IRTA-CReSA made a technical mission to Colombia in order to share the expertise from IRTA-CReSA in the execution of the diagnosis of Classical Swine Fever in the country and in the development of the biosafety level 3 laboratory at Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA).

The mission was also aimed at training ICA personnel to develop diagnostic techniques for classical swine fever virus, active and passive surveillance plans and the improvement of the vaccination plan, focusing on those areas of the country with difficult access, in order to facilitate the control of this disease in Colombia.

IRTA-CReSA is OMSA’s reference laboratory for Classical Swine Fever. OMSA reference laboratories are designated to deal with all scientific and technical problems related to a particular disease. The reference laboratories also provide scientific and technical training for personnel from member countries and coordinate scientific and technical studies in collaboration with other laboratories or organizations, including through OMSA’s laboratory twinning program.
