Internship in CReSA, a good experience

My name is Emily Rodriguez and I’m a vocational student of Technician in Pathologic Anatomy at the institute El Pinar de Nuestra Señora in Valldoreix (Catalonia) who has been in the job arena for the last year working in CReSA as a laboratory technician. As a student, I have liked the experience very much since in this centre you can learn everything about this profession – not only at an educational level – but also how to work within a team.

The work atmosphere that transpires in this centre is excellent. I, as a student, was afraid of being looked down on but, in fact, it has been the contrary. The personnel pay as much attention to you as possible in order to answer any question or doubt you may have.

In CReSA you have the possibility of practicing everything you have learnt in class. In my case, they have trusted me and I have been able to acquire practical knowledge on Pathologic Anatomy, from the reception of the samples to the final microscopic assessment.

I have done the whole process of identifying, registering and including samples in paraffin, elaborating blocks, microtomy and staining both routine and specific for bacteria or basic tissue structures. I have also been able to practice more complex techniques such as immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridizations, and to learn basic concepts in molecular biology or in bacteriology. And, in addition to these techniques, as a student just a step from the working world, I have acquired the knowledge on how to work with good laboratory practices (GLP), something that is very important in laboratories for animal research.

Personally, it has been a very good experience and I have learned everything related to a pathologic anatomy laboratory thanks to my mentors Mónica Pérez Maillo and Maria Jesus Navas. They have provided all the knowledge.
