Internal RLASB conference on Emerging Diseases

Last 30th September the “INIA-CReSA: Emerging Diseases at ICTS RLASB” conference was held at the Animal Health Research Center (INIA-CISA) in Valdeolmos, Madrid.

The conference was attended by researchers from the two nodes INIA-CISA and IRTA-CReSA, as well as researchers from the INIA Department of Biotechnology in the field of animal health with the aim of explaining and sharing the research lines of each. In addition, assessing opportunities for collaboration in research and empowerment of the ICTS in the field of animal health.

Fernando Rodríguez, until now director of IRTA-CReSA, presented the lines of research and activities that are carried out in the IRTA-CReSA node, highlighting research in African Swine fever. Similarly, the director of INIA-CISA Marisa Arias, explained the activity carried out in this node.

Next, Marina Torres, in charge of management and communication, explained the operation of the RLASB, the activities carried out so far, the new corporate image and the dissemination channels of the ICTS.

Dr. Miguel Angel Jiménez-Clavero (INIA-CISA) and Dr. Nuria Busquets (CReSA-IRTA), have described the advances in research on Arbovirus and arthropod vectors. To end the activities of the ICTS nodes, Dr. Lilliane Ganges (CReSA) has focused on the activities of the OIE Laboratory, in relation to Emerging Pestiviruses.

The second part of the Conference has focused on the Department of Biotechnology, with the collaboration of Dr. Covadonga Alonso, Head of the Department of Biotechnology of INIA, for the presentation of the BIO Groups in general. But he also specifically mentioned in his participation the works developed by this Department in relation to the virus and the infection of the African swine fever. We have also had the opportunity to enjoy the participation of Dr. Rafael Blasco, a researcher from the Department of Biotechnology who has explained the work carried out in relation to the new opportunities for vaccine vectors based on Poxvirus.

The day has been closed with a round table with the participation of researchers and speakers with the aim of assessing potential INIA-CReSA collaborations and opportunities for strengthening the ICTS RLASB, which has reached the following conclusions:

  • It is necessary to continue with the dissemination work already initiated by the communication officer of the RLASB, with a general objective of publicizing the ICTS, expanding the dissemination groups, and a specific one to improve open and competitive access, providing information and instructions to access the ICTS.
  • Continue to strengthen the coordination between the two nodes, CISA and CReSA, through greater interaction of the research groups, and strengthen those that already maintain collaboration points.
  • An effort will be made to agree on the access rates to the two ICTS nodes, CISA and EL CReSA, keeping them at a public price level, which guarantees transparent and affordable rates.
